Using Free Media Platforms to Gain More Visibility

Using social media platform as part of a Web 2.0 Marketing campaign is a good idea. Most of these platforms are free and are very user friendly and allow user interaction. User interaction is very important if the intent is to gain higher visibility and trust. This is a great way to build a brand and gain higher page rankings and ultimately more sales.

Social media platforms are characterized in three ways: networking, promoting and sharing.

Using a social media site for networking purposes allows users to reach large audiences by searching for groups of people using a specific demographic, age range, etc. Networking sites allow user to communicate through personal messages, chat, blogs, videos and so forth. FaceBook, for example, is a social networking site. Users can post information on their “walls” for all of their contacts to see.

Using a social media platform to promote a brand opens up a whole new place where users can create and submit a short video then upload it to the site. Whether the video gets a hundred views or ten views is always uncertain. But, videos actually let users know that the company is a real person and not just an online entity. Sites such as YouTube and Flickr are examples of social media platforms that are good for promoting a brand.

Finally, if the intent is to share information, there are platforms for that also. This would include bookmarking, eBooks, podcasts and the like. These types of platforms allow users to like or dislike the content and leave feedback. Feedback is a valuable tool for marketers. It allows them to interact with the user to find out what they like and dislike. Examples of these sites are Digg, Delicious, SlideShare, and Crowdstorm.

When implementing a Web 2.0 Marketing Strategy, some research is required. There are many ways to reach a large number of people for free. In the world of Web 2.0 where the user has more control over what they view and do not view, it is important to know where the masses tend to congregate. Which ever social media platform(s) are used, remember to stay consistent and follow user behavior and patterns.
